The Experience

What your day looks like

Start your amazing visit to Skagway by enjoying our most popular train and bus combination tour! Skagway’s most scenic Alaskan experience includes a relaxing 28 mile (1.75 hours) train excursion between Skagway and the top of the White Pass Summit and beyond to Fraser, British Columbia! This is by far the most extravagant display of spectacular panoramic beauty there is to offer in all of Skagway. Travel onboard the famous White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad into Canada on this train journey all the way to the Fraser Train Depot in British Columbia while you relax and enjoy the narrated commentary provided onboard the train. Upon arrival at the train depot in Fraser (Canadian Customs) passengers are transferred to a comfortable bus for their return to Skagway while our entertaining guides amuse them with captivating stories of local lore and the Klondike Gold Rush! With stops along the way, there will be ample opportunities for photo enthusiasts to view and photograph cascading waterfalls, majestic mountains, massive glaciers, roaring rivers, historic sites, and other breathtaking vistas! Complimentary drop-off service is provided in town or at the cruise ship docks upon the conclusion of your tour. Historical Train Information: Built-in 1898 during the Klondike Gold Rush, this Scenic Railway of the World was designated as an International Historic Civil Engineering Landmark (along with the Eiffel Tower and Statue of Liberty). The 3-foot wide Narrow Gauge Railroad climbs almost 3,000 feet in the first 20 miles with an average grade of 2.6%, and up to 3.9% in some locations. It also passes through 2 tunnels and travels over sky-high trestles and bridges. Comfortable restored and replica passenger coaches are pulled by vintage diesel locomotives. Each heated passenger coach has large viewing windows and a restroom.

What to know before booking

What to Bring

The best recommendation is to dress in layered clothing. That way you can peel off a layer if the weather is warmer. A PASSPORT, PASSPORT CARD, Nexus, Sentri or Enhanced Driver's License is REQUIRED. Children 15 and younger only need a birth certificate if they are a US or Canadian citizen.

Restrictions

Our vehicles are not wheelchair accessible and we are not able to accommodate motorized or electric scooters of ANY kind. However, for passengers who have small, collapsible walkers we are happy to assist in boarding and storing them on our bus if we have room and they do not exceed these measurements: 30″L x 10″W x 30″H (including wheels). If we do not have room, the walker may have to be left behind by a company representative and delivered to the guest at the conclusion of the tour. Smoking is prohibited on train and tour vehicles.

All tour departures start from each and every cruise ship dock in Skagway. We also drop our guests back at the pier at the conclusion of the tour. Hotel pick-up available from Skagway hotels. We do not pick up or drop off in Haines for any of our tours.

Outstanding scenery and narration! Made our Alaska cruise worth the wait.

Clearings are small and sights hard to see. Narration was way earlier than actual sights. Bus ride back was cramped and uneventful. Photo stops (2) were a bust. Promoting a purchase of crappy hats and begging for a tip was a turnoff. Not recommended…. spend your time perusing downtown Skagway.

This excursion was perfect… just wish we saw some wildlife. Spencer did a great job narrating the train going down, Tiana was fantastic, very fantastic on our bus ride up..
