The Experience

What your day looks like

Ride a bike down Maui’s largest volcano along with a tour of Upcountry Maui and Haleakala National Park. Enjoy an awesome interpretive vehicle tour of Haiku, Makawao, Kula, and Haleakala Ranch on our way up the mountain to the 9,740 ft. summit of Mauna Haleakala! Take in the sights of the crater and enjoy an interpretive tour of Haleakala National Park on your way down to the bike staging area located at 6,500 ft. elevation. This is where guests begin their bike ride down the world-famous “switchbacks of Haleakala.” There are great photo stops along the way to take in the beautiful views. Once all guests complete their bike ride down the switchbacks, they will board the vehicle and go back up to do it again! That's right, the heart of the downhill and regarded as the best part of the ride, so nice we do it twice! After that second run, we proceed to an area called Triangles, which is above the historic paniolo town of Makawao. Guests will resume their bike ride here and we recommend making a stop to explore Makawao town to grab a bite to eat. The bike ride continues back to our shop located in the quaint North Shore town of Haiku.

The ride wasn't exactly what I expected and due to recent restrictions, you can't ride all the way down. But the crater is gorgeous and the ride is fun. Kimo was a fantastic guide and he takes the best picture of you flying over Maui!!

Kimo Rice made the adventure even more fun! Lots of local knowledge and even a guava snack! Props Kimo!

This tour has great potential but is a bit scattered. The National Park portion is the best, but it is very short. The bike ride being done twice is a creative way to get around not being able to bike one of the sections, but it is still pretty short. Several of our members got lost on the way back to the shop- maybe they could send a text with directions "right at XXX, left at XXX" to the group to avoid this. Kima did a great job and was very entertaining.

Our family had an amazing excursion biking down the volcano! Kimo Rice was the absolute best guide and really shared a Hawaiians expert views on the history and nature surrounding the area. Would def recommend Kimo and the Maui bike company!
