The Experience

What your day looks like

This 5-5 1/2 hour adventure takes you to the Na Pali Coast and does everything that our longer tour does with the exception of the Nualolo Kai beach landing. Travel under the waterfalls and into sea caves when conditions permit, encounter playful dolphins, turtles, whales (in season), and more. Dolphins skimming the waves before you is an experience to remember always. When conditions allow the raft will stop to snorkel at Nu'alolo Kai, one of the best reefs on Kauai. Inaccessible from the land you can only reach this area by small vessels (conditions permitting) and passengers swim and snorkel from the boat. Dive in to snorkel over tropical reefs under the watchful eye of our crew, all the gear & instructions provided. Excellent photo opportunities and sunset views end this perfect day of adventure.

This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience to say the least. Our Captain, KK, was phenomenal and gave us the full experience even though conditions were not what we would consider ideal. We can't say enough great things about her...boating skills were top-notch, history and knowledge of the island and culture were so greatly appreciated, and her fun personality was infectious. Now to the part that was so surprising to our group of 4 (Dad, Mom, 20 yo, 18 yo)...we accept full responsibility for not understanding what we were signing up for when we booked this tour. Our typical approach is to research extensively all tours, excursions, activities, etc. prior to booking but because of the busy season of life that we were in we just settled for the Project Expedition excursion explanation. And boy were we shocked when we realized what we had signed up for less than a half hour into the tour. We must be completely honest...this is a very intense activity. The four of us are in very good shape (though our fitness levels vary) and it kicked every one of our butts. To sit on the side of an inflatable raft with only a rope to hold onto while boating for 5 hours is a workout but when you add 20-25 MPH winds (which apparently is common) with steady 4-6 ft seas and frequent 8 ft swells, you are completely spent after holding on for dear life for 5 hours. Did we see some amazing landscapes that were only possible by sea? Absolutely! Were they break-taking and unlike anything we've ever witnessed in other parts of the world? Absolutely! But was it worth the stress of the intensity of the ride on an inflatable raft with no real seat, and no real way of bracing yourself for 5 long hours (60 miles roundtrip)? Not for our family. We love an adventure and we've spent summer after summer boating in the Gulf of Mexico waters but this was a bit much for us. Had we known exactly what we were signing up for our experience may have been a bit more pleasant. Again, Capt KK was amazing and the scenery was phenomenal so those deserve 5 stars but do a little bit of research prior to booking to ensure you know what you are booking. And keep in mind that videos showing calm seas were shot on one of the few picture-perfect days this area sees each year.

Such an amazing tour with great guides! Stellar, one-of-a-kind views. DISCLAIMER: Stock up on Dramamine and make sure you’re prepared for a full body workout. This tour will take a lot of out of you (figuratively and potentially literally), but you will get to see a lot of cool stuff.
