The Experience

What your day looks like

Like the idea of going to Hana but do not want a full day excursion? Then come with us on our Halfway to Hana tour. With four to five hours, you can still get into the thick of the rainforest, view a couple waterfalls and visit a native Hawaiian community. This route is recommended if you are limited on time. As your journey begins, we pass the swaying jurassic grasses of Mauis sugar cane fields. Stories of Mauis plantation era will bring these giant grass fields to life with rich history. Our first stop is Hookipa Beach Park to take in a birds eye view of this world class surfing and wind surfing hot spot. Then we will visit the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles basking on the shoreline. Next, the rolling countryside of Huelo gives way to thick bamboo forest. We stop at the vibrantly colored rainbow eucalyptus for some tree hugging before moving deeper into the winding turns of the Road to Hna. Along this shady curving road, we see streams and waterfalls packed with ferns, moss, fruit trees, birds and bamboo. We may stop for a swim in waterfall pool (depends on strength of flow). Then visit fruit stands for shave ice & Mauis famous Banana Bread. The apex of this tour is our visit to the Keanae peninsula. We will drive down to this traditional Hawaiian village known for its taro fields. Tended to by mahiai (cultivators) in the same fashion as their Hawaiian ancestors. Visit an original stone missionary church built in 1856; the lone building to survive the devastating tsunami of 1946. End with a drive to Wailua, the village next door, featuring the best waterfall the road has to offer. A grand, three-tiered falls named Waikani. If you wish, we can take a short, adventurous trail to the base of the falls. The beauty and majesty of nature on this tour is stunning. Yet the depth of the tour comes from the stories and history woven in along the way. We invite you to come, enjoy the ride with us.

Dayne was on time and a very pleasant person. He drove safely on a very dangerous road and was very informative about his island.
