The Experience

What your day looks like

Step away from the plowed roads and into a world of absolute silence. This immersive backcountry expedition utilizes the ancient technology of snowshoes to grant you access to the pristine, snow-blanketed heart of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. By venturing beyond the reach of standard vehicles, you will experience the park’s winter ecology in a tactile, hands-on way that few travelers ever witness. Guided by a professional naturalist, this journey transforms the snowy landscape into a living manuscript. You will learn to read the "stories" written in the frost—from the fresh tracks of a hunting wolf pack to the subtle adaptations of flora thriving beneath the ice. Every trek is a bespoke discovery mission, tailored to your group's curiosity and physical goals.

Detailed Itinerary

The journey, in full

Sunrise Gathering & Transit: Begin with a morning pickup from your lodging in Bozeman, Paradise Valley, Gardiner, or Mammoth. As we travel toward the trailhead, we use high-powered optics to scan the Northern Range for early-morning wildlife activity. Backcountry Immersion: Once equipped with professional-grade snowshoes, we leave the sounds of the road behind. Your guide will lead you into secluded valleys or frost-covered forests that remain untouched by the crowds. Tracking & Ecological Study: Spend the day identifying animal tracks and signs in the fresh powder. Your guide interprets the behavior of wintering megafauna and the specialized survival strategies of the park’s sub-arctic inhabitants. Geothermal & Ice Discovery: Visit remote, steaming thermal features or ice-draped waterfalls that take on a surreal beauty in the sub-zero air. Secluded Field Picnic: Enjoy a warm, gourmet lunch and hot beverages in a sheltered wilderness setting, providing a moment of quiet reflection in the heart of the wild.
