Designed for guests staying in Big Sky, this full-day safari transitions from the silent, snow-blanketed forests of the Gallatin Range to the world-class educational facilities of West Yellowstone. Led by a professional naturalist, this journey utilizes the ancient technology of snowshoes to grant you "unfettered access" to the high-alpine meadows and river bottoms. After your morning trek, you will transition to a controlled environment where you can observe and learn about the social structures of bears and wolves that have been rescued from the wild.

Alpine Departure: Begin your day with a scenic transit from Big Sky through the dramatic Gallatin River Canyon, scanning the roadside cliffs for bighorn sheep and bald eagles along the way. Backcountry Snowshoe Trek: Step onto the snow and experience the landscape like a winter hare. Your guide will select a route through pristine forests and meadows, tailored to your group’s physical goals. This is a tactile experience focused on identifying fresh animal tracks and the subtle signs of life in a sub-arctic environment. Mountain Hospitality: Transition to West Yellowstone to escape the cold and enjoy a warm, gourmet meal. This mid-day break provides an opportunity to discuss the region’s complex ecology with your guide. Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center: Spend the afternoon at this renowned educational center. Observe rescued grizzly bears and gray wolves in a naturalistic habitat, providing a guaranteed, up-close look at the behavioral traits and social hierarchies of these apex predators. We pick up at central meeting points and various hotels throughout the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Your exact pickup time and tour duration will be determined by your hotel location and the season. Please make note of your pickup time and location and save it for your reference. Please be ready and waiting in the central meeting location or hotel lobby a few minutes before your pickup. Please allow an additional 5–10 minutes for your guide to arrive in case they are delayed for any reason. Changes to trip timing may be made to accommodate daylight or optimum wildlife viewing conditions.
