The Experience

What your day looks like

Come join us on a lovely 2.5-3.5-mile roundtrip hike through an Alaska State Park and into the Tongass National Forest. Enjoy a small group of up to 7 guests! First, relax during the forty-minute scenic drive to the end of the road. Then, hike along an improved gravel trail beside a river, where you’ll catch glimpses of waterfalls. Walk through a magical old-growth rainforest showcasing impressive specimens of Sitka spruce and western red cedar that frame the trail. Aside from some stairs at the beginning of the hike, the trail flattens out and winds along the river valley below a ridge. Our destination, 1.6 miles down the trail, is a stone bench beside a serene bend in the river, where we can pause and enjoy each other's company and the peaceful surroundings. On the way back, we’ll conclude our hike at a waterfall with stunning ocean views. Connect with your guide, each other, and the wilderness of Southeast Alaska. Learn about our local flora and fauna, hear about our complex logging history and its implications for the future, and discover why it’s essential to protect our endangered old-growth forests.

Great short hike through an enchanted forest. Close up views of Lunch Creek and salmon acclimating to fresh water for their swim upstream.

We really enjoyed seeing old-growth trees. Although the guide was very knowledgable, he talked continuously which we found a little distracting.

So glad that we chose this tour. Chad was a great tour guide, very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Being part of a smaller group allowed us to step outside of the hubbub of the typical tours and get a sense of the grandeur (and magic!) of Alaska. Thanks for a great day!
