What your day looks like

Sentinel Lighthouse is a big part of Alaskan history. It was built in 1901 for $21,267 and was one of first lighthouses activated in Southeast Alaska. It is conveniently located in the middle of the best whale watching spots! Your lighthouse and whale watching adventure begins as you board your transport for a scenic and narrated ride to Auke Bay (Statter Harbor). Upon arrival, you'll meet your captain/crew and board your vessel. Keep your camera close – you never know when the perfect photo-op will arise! Departing from Auke Bay, relax in a heated cabin with a hot cup of coffee and enjoy outside viewing areas while watching for wildlife. Search for Humpback whales, Stellar sea lions, Dall's porpoise, bald eagles, and various marine birds. Cruising through Alaska's Inside Passage, learn about whales and the history of our lighthouses. En route to the lighthouse, be sure to keep an eye out for signs of our abundant Humpback whale population. Once spotted, your captain will maneuver the vessel into position for the best photo opportunity possible. Upon arrival at Sentinel Island, you will begin the next leg of your adventure with a short walk on a scenic boardwalk loop with photo ops along the way. Amazing views include Lynn Canal, (one of the longest and deepest fjords in the world) and the surrounding islands and waterways. Next, climb up the lighthouse tower, inspect the beacon, and take a look across beautiful Lynn Canal. After getting back to the boat, there's a 15-minute scenic ride to Yankee Cove, where you will meet up with your driver and enjoy a narrated trip. Your final stop at the Brotherhood Bridge viewpoint of the Mendenhall Glacier brings it all together, Alaska's history, wildlife and, epic scenery. Enjoy your short remaining ride to your cruise ship, reminiscing about this unforgettable look at a slice of Southeast Alaska history.

The lighthouse part of this tour was interesting, but not as much fun as I hoped (in particular, we climbed to the top of the Sentinel lighthouse but there is little to see). However, the whale watching vastly exceeded our expectations and was amazing. A pod of four whales and a calf hung out for more than 30 minutes feeding and resurfacing over and over again. A particular plus was the onboard naturalist used a proper camera and lens to take photos of the whales and sent them to us via the web, which freed us up to really experience the whales in person without the distraction of trying to get a picture. The hot chocolate on the return trip was very much appreciated as well, but be careful because it is HOT chocolate.

Great tour! The guides were fantastic and made it so much fun! The guides were as excited as we were to see the whales!

We had a fabulous time on our tour despite terrible weather. We quickly and easily saw many humpback whales, numerous bald eagles, and a colony of sea lions. The stop at the lighthouse was an added bonus. The boat itself is the nicest, most comfortable scenic tour boat I have ever ridden. My family (ages 8-74!) really enjoyed this tour. 10/10 recommend!

Saw many whales, including a baby humpback and a pod of Orcas! The lighthouse tour was a nice break for the kids to keep things exciting.

Fantastic tour! Long drive to start the tour but it made all the difference. We didn't have far to go by boat to see wildlife and even were lucky enough of see orcas! Dalton, Coral and Morgan did a great job. Max, our bus driver was quite funny and made the bus ride go quickly (despite the traffic delay and bear on the side of the road).
