The Experience

What your day looks like

Our Icefield Excursion is, by far, the most popular tour selection. You’ll have the chance to actually take a stroll on a glacier to appreciate the massive scale of it while being awed by your beautiful surroundings. Your pilot is your guide from start to finish to ensure a personalized experience. Our helicopter pilot-guides are put through rigorous preseason training to ensure the smoothest ride, and the best possible tour experience available. Your helicopter flight will take you over the spectacular rock formations and icefalls of the Juneau Icefield as it heads toward either the Herbert, Taku, Lemon or Norris Glacier. Your helicopter flight will be narrated by our knowledgeable pilot-guide and upon reaching your destination your pilot-guide will shut down the helicopter and escort you on an informative, relaxing walk while describing the area that surrounds you. This tour takes approximately 1 hour from the time it takes off until it returns to the heliport. Landings on glaciers inside the Tongass National Forest are under permits issued by the USDA Forest Service. What to Bring

During check-out, please provide fully clothed body weights for all guests Dress warmly and in layers, as the temperature on the glacier is often colder than you are used to. Don’t forget your sunglasses, scarf, hat, and gloves You will be outfitted with a glacier over-boot prior to embarking on your trip, please wear rubber-soled shoes such as a light hiking boot or athletic shoes to ensure a good fit. Remember to bring your camera with space for lots of pictures!

Restrictions

Please be aware that every guest is individually weighed at our facilities. Coastal Helicopters will try our best to accommodate parties/families in the same helicopter. However, we cannot guarantee seating as it is all based on helicopter weight and balance, as well as the other parties within the flight. This will be determined at the time of check-in once everyone on the flight has weighed in. Should your family/party be split into multiple helicopters, the landing will happen together. Please note that lap children are not allowed, and each passenger must purchase a full-fare ticket. ADA Standard Passenger: This option is for ANY passenger that requires accessibility per ADA guidelines. Please indicate in your reservation if you will require our ADA vehicle. If you would like additional information, please contact us. Coastal Helicopters is proud to say we are the only heli-tour company to offer tours with accommodations for ADA guests! However, our dog sledding tours cannot accommodate these guests, due to staff and equipment limitations at the dog sled camp. We can take you up for one of our Icefield Excursions to Herbert Glacier! Our Icefield Excursion is, by far, the most popular tour selection. You'll have the chance to actually visit a glacier to appreciate its massive scale while being awed by your beautiful surroundings. Your pilot is your guide from start to finish to ensure a personalized experience. The Icefield Excursion is approximately one hour in length, with half your time in the air and half spent on the glacier. We have an accessible van with a rear door ramp that we will meet the guest with and a powered lift that will help them into the helicopter. During the tour the heli stays with you, so we will have the ADA guest stay in the aircraft while on the ice. The pilot will open all of the doors for the guest to enjoy the view and we will provide them with a Nalgene water bottle - the pilot will offer to collect some glacier water for them! You must note in the booking if you require pick-up from AJ Dock.

This was an amazing helicopter excursion!!! Alex was our pilot and he did a great job. The views we saw while hly were unbelievable and Alex found the perfect spot for us to land. We were able to walk around the Glacier and drink fresh cold glacier water. Alex was professional and friendly. He took pictures of our helicopter adventure that we will cherish for a lifetime. This excursion is a must do because it was the highlight of our Alaskan vacation

This was our favorite excursion. I guess because you just don't get to walk on a glacier everyday. Our pilot was so nice and took pictures of us and even a video. As we were going back, he said that we were the last one for the day. They were cancelling tours for the rest of the day due to visibility. I'm so glad our tour did not get cancelled because we were so looking forward to it and enjoyed it so much.

This is an excursion I would do again. Even though the weather did not cooperate 100%, the care prior to the helicopter ride, getting ready, being on the glacier was an unforgettable experience. One I would do again!
