The Experience

What your day looks like

The Walkabout offers a personalized experience and the unique opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the Mendenhall Glacier’s most stunning features. Enjoy sweeping views of the massive Juneau Icefield and Tongass National Forest on your helicopter ride to and from base camp. This hour-long interpretive hike led by our team of professional guides provides the opportunity to learn about the history and geology of the area as you trek across the icy terrain. Gaze into the depths of blue crevasses, pose for pictures in front of massive ice walls, and drink pure glacial water straight from the source on this unique Alaskan adventure. With relatively at and moderate hiking conditions, the Walkabout is designed for ages 8 and up, and most physical abilities. No experience is necessary, however, guests should be prepared to walk on uneven and rolling terrain for one full hour.

Roberts Tram as it is a convenient location for cruise ship guests. If you have guests that are staying at a hotel we are able to accommodate a different pick-up/drop-off location, we just need to be notified so the reservation reflects that information and our drivers know where to go.
