Detailed Itinerary

The journey, in full

Kilkenny Castle (Meeting Point & Introduction) Begin your experience at the iconic Kilkenny Castle, the historic heart of the city. Meet your guide and fellow guests and get ready to learn about Kilkenny's rich culture and heritage.  You will be introduced to Kilkenny's famous knight, William Marshal, who, legend has it, was "the greatest knight that ever lived". A title well earned, as he is credited with building the first stone fortress on this site in 1195 and transforming Kilkenny into a major medieval town. Meander down Kilkenny's Medieval Mile Kilkenny is filled with historical buildings, especially along the infamous Medieval Mile. The first one to note is the Medieval Mile Museum, which was built originally as St. Mary's Church by William Marshal (busy guy). Also along the Mile is Rothe House & Garden, a beautifully preserved merchant home and a fine example of how wealthy trading families lived in Kilkenny. Kyteler's Inn - established by Ireland's First Witch Your guide will bewitch you with stories about another infamous Kilkenny character, Alice Kyteler, who was the first person in Ireland condemned for witchcraft.  No spoilers here, but you will enjoy the tale (Girl Power, go Alice). She was the original owner of a great Kilkenny bar, Kyteler's Inn, which is well worth a stop.
