The Experience

What your day looks like

At the foot of Mount Parnassos, lies the Pan-Hellenic sanctuary of Delphi, which was the most famous oracle of ancient Greece. Delphi was regarded as the "navel" of the world. According to mythology, it is here that the two eagles sent out by Zeus to find the navel of the world met. Delphi was for many centuries the cultural and religious center of the Hellenic world and seat of the Pythian Games, the second most important games in Greece after the Olympics, which were held every four years. Delphi is one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece and a Unesco’s World Heritage monument. In this tour, we will visit all the sites in Delphi. We will pass by Castalia Spring, visit the archaeological site and see the Theatre, the Athenian Treasury, the Temple of Apollo famous for its oracle Pythia, the Navel of the Earth. On our way to Athens, we will pay our respects to King Leonidas of Sparta and witness the renowned Hot Springs of Thermopylae, one of the 7 gates to Hades, according to Greek mythology. We will visit the Museum of Delphi, with its spectacular collection of artifacts, including the Naxian Sphinx, the unique bronze Charioteer and the Statue of Antinoos. We will visit the picturesque Arachova and enjoy a traditional lunch on the Caldera at Delphi, overlooking fabulous Itea.

Our private tour started with a prompt hotel pickup & cookies that our driver bought from a bakery for us, in case we needed a snack on the journey. Yannis drove us to Thermopylae first, spending the entire drive giving us the history and information about both the destination and the areas we were traveling through. His extensive knowledge of Greece and European history continued to Delphi. After our time in Delphi, we had a lovely late lunch/dinner at a local restaurant with reservations made by our guide. He was so kind, fun, interactive, and attentive. We could not have asked for a better tour!

Our guide was fabulous and shared so many great stories, especially around the battle at Thermopylae and helping us to understand the full significance and importance of Delphi to Greece, culturally AND spiritually and more.
