Join us for a delightful journey from Brighton into the beautiful countryside of East Sussex, where the real landscapes that inspired the Winnie-the-Pooh stories can still be explored today. Travelling in a small group with a local driver-guide, we head into the rolling scenery of Ashdown Forest, the setting that became the Hundred Acre Wood. Our first stop is the charming village of Hartfield, where we visit Pooh Corner. Once the village shop where Christopher Robin Milne would buy his sweets, it is now a traditional tea room and small museum dedicated to Winnie-the-Pooh. Inside, you’ll find a fascinating collection of original artefacts, early illustrations, vintage merchandise, and memorabilia from the classic era. There’s time to enjoy refreshments, explore the gift shop, or wander around this picturesque Sussex village. We then continue into Ashdown Forest, where we visit the famous Pooh Bridge. Here you can play a game of Pooh Sticks just like in the story, before enjoying a gentle woodland walk to discover the real locations associated with Owl, Piglet, and Winnie-the-Pooh. Our final stop takes us up onto the heathland at Gills Lap, also known as the “Enchanted Place”. From here, you’ll enjoy sweeping views across the forest and visit the memorial to A. A. Milne and E. H. Shepard, whose collaboration brought these much-loved stories to life. Nearby, you’ll also see the sandy pit said to have inspired the adventures of Roo and Piglet, and the site associated with the famous Heffalump Trap.
