Wine Lover's Tour - Sip and Savor Your Way Through the Wines of Hvar

What your day looks like

Take part in Hvar’s wine tastings and discover how the Greeks and Romans were already growing grapes and producing wine on Hvar more than 300 years before Christ was born. Sip and savor your way through the wines of Hvar Island and visit three of Croatia’s most esteemed winemakers on this tour. This is a half-day experience where you will have the chance to taste four or five different wines, accompanied by the island’s finest local appetizers, along with all the information needed to satisfy your curiosity. The wineries you visit will be three of the six listed below, depending on availability. In the village of Sveta Nedjelja, by the waterside, the Plenković family founded their horticultural company in early 1986. The winery is responsible for Croatia’s only Grand Cru, and another unforgettable feature is its unique underwater wine cellar overlooking the seabed. In Jelsa, a small coastal town with a long wine-making tradition, the Tomić family cultivates indigenous grapes while also experimenting with new varieties. Pay particular attention to Prošek, the original Dalmatian wine made from selected grapes of the highest local quality. Also in Jelsa are young and ambitious “wine newcomers,” many without vineyards or with very small land plots, basing their production on grapes purchased from other farmers. In Croatia, Duboković wines have become a “must-have” in the finest restaurants, hotels, and specialized wine shops. Duboković – Medvid wines now hold the distinction of being the most expensive regular-vintage wines in the country. Boutique winery Ventus opened its doors in the village of Vrisnik in 2019, the joint idea of two friends. The logo is inspired by the wind rose, and each wine is named after the wind characteristic of its vineyard’s location. “Wind” (lat. ventus) is the key theme, and the wine is ecological. In the largest village on the island, Vrbanj, the Plančić family began producing wine in 1919 and continues today, combining tradition with modern oenological achievements. In every glass you will find the love of grapes, the authenticity of an ecologically protected area, and the harmony of indigenous yet daring wine producers. Last but not least, the Carić family in Vrboska has been involved with vineyards for as long as they can remember. However, it was only after Vino Hvar was established that they began producing their own “Carić wines.” The family has 5 hectares of vineyards in a specially designated wine-growing area known as Vinogorje Hvar. We will choose three (3) wineries from the six listed above, depending on availability. Please feel free to suggest your preferred wineries, and we will do our best to include them.
