Please choose 1 attraction option from category A A1. Juyongguan Great Wall (55KM) Juyongguan Great Wall is the number one pass in China. It is located in the 18 km long Guangou valley where the Jundu Mountain and Yan Mountain meet, which makes it the only route from Mongolia to Beijing in the old days. From the parking lot, it takes only 2 minutes to get on the actual Wall. It is more suitable for people who could not or don’t want to spend too much energy or time on reaching the actual Great Wall. Nowadays, It is much less crowded than the famous Badaling and Mutianyu Great Wall. A2. Badaling Great Wall (80KM) Badaling Great Wall is the first section of Great Wall opened to public in 1957, and the most visited section of the Great Wall of China. Badaling was first built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) to occupy a commanding and strategic position for protecting the Juyongguan Great Wall, Ming Tombs and the city of Beijing. It is a beautiful section of the Great Wall, but very crowded during holidays and Summer. A3. Mutianyu Great Wall (85KM) Mutianyu Great Wall is a beautiful section of the Wall in Huairou district of Beijing. It was built and restored in the early Ming Dynasty, on the remnants of a Wall originally built in the Qi Dynasty (550-577). It used to be much less touristy and crowded than Badaling 10 years ago. Nowadays, with increasing popularity with domestic and foreign tourists, it is almost the same crowded as Badaling. It takes almost 2-3 hours to take the chairlift up and another 1-2 hours to get on the toboggan. Plus, there is another long line for the shuttle bus up and down. Avoid going there on holidays, busy season and Mondays, or start very early. A4. Huanghuacheng Great Wall (85KM) Huanghuacheng Great Wall is a section of the Wall built through a lake, beautiful and peaceful place especially between Apr.-Oct. with boats available to take. Different from the main tourist sections of the Great Wall at Mutianyu and Badaling, normally there are only a handful of tourists. It features appealing sights including submerged parts of the Great Wall under the lake and the view after reaching high points. It is unpredictable during rainy season whether it will be open or closed. So please pay attention to the weather broadcast. A5. Jinshanling Great Wall (150KM) Jinshanling Great Wall is the most original and intact section of the Great Wall just outside Beijing. It was first built in the Qi Dynasty and rebuilt in 1567. Most part of the Wall at Jinshanling is in its original condition with less restoration. It is about 10.5 kilometers long with 67 watchtowers, 2 beacon towers and 5 main passes. Cable car is available between Apr.-Oct. to take you up to the actual Wall in 17 minutes. This site uses a minivan to take tourists up to the entrance to the Wall in winter time. Travelers should have a decent fitness level to explore this section of the Wall; alternatively, you could just take the cable car for both ways.
