The journey, in full
Depart from your Beijing hotel in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle and relax during the scenic drive to the Mutianyu section. It takes about 1.5 hours to drive from downtown to the Mutianyu Great Wall. The professional tour guide will give you an explication of the Great Wall and the related Chinese history and culture on the way. Mutianyu Great Wall is located 50 miles (80 km) northeast of Beijing. As one of the famous and best-preserved sections of the Great Wall, it was first built in the mid-6th century during the Northern Qi, which is much earlier than the Badaling section. It is connected with Jiankou in the west and Jinshanling in the east. There are 23 towers on the Mutianyu Great Wall snaking the ridge for about 3000 meters. The Mutianyu Great Wall is also famous for its breathtakingly beautiful scenery. The woods cover over ninety-six percent of the total scenic area. After lunch at a local Chinese restaurant, head to Huaibei Skiing Resort (about a 1-hour drive) Covering an area of 9.6 square kilometers, with a snow-covered area of 10,000 square meters, the ski resort is the largest one in Beijing and can accommodate 5,000 tourists in one day. Known as the backyard of Beijing, Huaibei Ski Resort is set in the Jiugukou Natural Scenic Area, the ski resort is surrounded by the Great Wall on three sides. Tourists can have a fine view of the 4.5-kilometer-long Great Wall from the Ming Dynasty that extends along the mountains. The ski trails in Huaibei Ski Resort consist of one “magic carpet”, three chairlifts (the only ski resort where there is a chairlift for the beginners’ trail), four drag lifts, and eight trails (one advanced trail, three intermediate trails, and four beginner trails). Also, there is a ski park. The length of the trails is 4,600 meters in total with a drop elevation of 238 meters. Your tour guide will explain how to get your ski equipment and tell you how to use the facilities, then you will spend 2-3 hours on your own enjoying your skiing. This fantastic tour will end by driving you back to your centrally located hotel in Beijing.
