Cahal Pech
What your day looks like
This tour takes you on a great 69 mile journey down the George Price Highway, previously known as the Western Highway. This route allows you to see the villages outside of Belize City before you arrive to the town of San Ignacio. Just outside of this town is the Mayan temple of Cahal Pech, "Place of Ticks". After arrival, the hike begins! This site has grand plazas and palaces, built over 1800 years ago. Archaeologists have found evidence that the Mayans on this site occupied Belize the longest. Belize's leading archaeologist, Dr. Jaime Awe, made the discovery that a grand royal burial had taken place in the center of the largest plaza of this site. This site offers great photo opportunities in the narrow passageways of the buildings as well as in the plazas.
