Belize Zoo Adventure
What your day looks like
This tour takes us to the Belize Zoo! This zoo claims to be the first of its kind; a zoo in which all the animals are in their natural habitats. In fact, the animals found at the Belize Zoo are all native animals, not animals captured in the wild. Zoo residents were either people’s pets, donated to the zoo, injured and brought in for healing and rehabilitation, born at the Zoo, or sent to the zoo from another zoological facility. Founded by an American citizen, Sharon Matola in 1983, this zoo not only showcases Belize's unique wildlife, but also serves as a rehabilitation center for our animals and is an educational research center for wildlife in Belize. The experience in the Belize Zoo is phenomenal and offers an up close experience with Belizean wildlife.
The experience, in brief
- See animals that are all indigenous to Belize

The journey, in full
Getting to the Belize Zoo involves a drive through the streets of Belize City and on to the George Price Highway, formerly known as the western highway. The Belize Zoo is 29 miles away from Belize City and contains animals that are all indigenous to he country. The Belize Zoo may be small in size for this reason but it provides the visitor with an authentic Belizean experience.
