Ocean Free Sail to Green Island & The Great Barrier Reef

Check-in from 7.15 am at the Ocean Free & Ocean Freedom desk inside the Reef Fleet Terminal (RFT) where you will meet our friendly office team and receive a boarding card. After check-in, you take a short stroll down A Finger – just outside the RFT and give your boarding card to the skipper on boarding the boat. Start to meet our friendly crew who will show you where to place your bags, slip your shoes off, grab a coffee or tea, a Danish pastry and piece of fruit and settle in! On departing the dock at 8.00am your crew will do a safety briefing, set the sails (you can assist if you would like to!) and you will motor sail to the reef (motor is used to get to reef to arrive at certain time but gets switched off for sail home!) On the journey there breathe in the salty air, embrace the sights and feel that holiday vibe embrace you as you start to be absorbed by all that surrounds you! Arrive at our exclusive mooring on “Pinnacle Reef” – just 1 km off tropical Green Island in this Marine Park Green zone. Enjoy the visual feast of beautiful blues, and greens of this reef and tropical island area You then listen to a snorkel safety brief, crew will hand out equipment and provide you with any assistance to make you feel comfortable as you step off the boat and look down onto a beautiful Coral Garden. Meet the schools of Spangled Emperor, Giant Trevally as you enter the water. Spot the little blue damsel fish darting in and out of the coral, listen to the crunching sound of a colourful Parrot Fish grazing on the algae, and try and spot a blue spotted stingray rummaging on the sandy cay ocean floor. Absorb all the reef stories our crew avidly describe – ask them questions! Back on board after your first explore sit back and relax as a scrumptious full smorgasbord lunch gets served. Watch a crew member do our Eco Permitted Fish Feed and see our “residents” dart around in a competitive feed! Then gather a few belongings, jump into the tender, where the skipper will transport you to land on Green Island Beach. Enjoy one or two hours on the island (your skipper will inform)- depending on whether you want to do more snorkelling back on the main vessel. On the island take the interpretative walk across the island, stroll along the beach, turn right to the island resort if you fancy a look at the island shops or a left if you want island peace and serenity. A visit to Marineland Melanesia also an option (small direct fee) and see crocodiles (in captivity!), turtles and lots of interesting regional artefacts collected over the years. Your skipper will inform of your pick-up time from the island. On the tender trip back to the boat look out for turtles popping up for a breath of fresh air! Back on board, the crew drop the lines, sails get hoisted. Prepare for an authentic sailing experience (wind prevailing !!) as our crew serve you fresh fruit, cheese and crackers and a glass of wine. Sit back, relax and reminisce on all that nature provided you that day! Or if a slightly windier day – embrace the exhilaration of an awesome sail and feel nature’s energy flow through you! Either way you are in for a genuine “feel good day” with an attentive and caring crew! You arrive back in Cairns around 4.45 – 5.00pm. Head along to the many bars, cafes and restaurants along the waterfront for a sunset relax and drink and reminisce on your special day!
