Gable Island and Penguin Colony with Canoeing
What your day looks like
Between October and March, we go for a walk in the forest, to row in canoes, to sail in a motorboat and to walk by an island to the South of Ushuaia, to discover one of the wildest and most beautiful places of the Beagle Channel. This active excursion is the most comprehensive day tour of Tierra del Fuego. In addition to Gable Island, we will visit the penguin colony on Martillo Island. We will pick you up from your accommodation/hotel by bus, we will leave Ushuaia to the East on National Route Nº3 and then on the "J" route. Once on the Beagle Channel coast, preparations will begin to paddle inflatable canoes along the Beagle Channel. We will offer you rubber boots, cover-pants and life jackets for paddling downstream and by the sea in the Beagle Channel! Along the itinerary in the sea, we will see wildlife: a variety of seabirds, and it is also possible that we will see sea lions. Once the paddling is over, we will arrive at the main attraction of the day: the huge Gable Island, where a good hot lunch awaits us, with Patagonian wine, soft drinks, and mineral water. After lunch, we will hike to explore this wonderful island, through beaver dams, through the forest, and along the marine coast and from there we will take a motorboat towards the Isla Martillo. From the boat, we can see penguins in their breeding site, and then the boat that will take us back to Puerto Harberton to take the bus to Ushuaia and that will leave us back downtown.
