The Experience
What your day looks like
The aim of our trip is to show you the Patagonia that tourists do not get to see, as well as to take you to one of its crowning glories. The trip encompasses the way many locals live, their music, their food, and their hospitality. We will experience from a BBQ lunch with a colono family by the beach to a day spent with a very traditional gaucho family at their estancia. The second part of our trip will take you to a more touristy experience at the Perito Moreno glacier. We have decided to include this as it is a stunning experience, well worth it. The southern part of the trip will show a completely different landscape and environment of the southern tip of the Americas.

Your day, step by step
Day 1
San Carlos de Bariloche
Day 1: Arrival in Bariloche - Transfer to the Villa la Angostura guesthouse - Welcome dinner Arrival in Buenos Aires and flight to Bariloche. You will be met at Bariloche airport, and we will travel by van to Villa la Angostura for a welcome dinner with Argentinian red wine. We have two small neighboring family guesthouses (Alehue), and you can walk from one to the other in a few minutes. We have beautiful gardens overlooking the mountains and the lake.

Day 2

Eco Tour. Half-Day Cycling Adventure – Free Afternoon – Optional Knife Maker Visit 7:30 Breakfast 8:30 AM: Boarding and transfer to the starting point of the trail to the Rio Bonito waterfall, on Bayo Hill. We will hike to the Rio Bonito waterfall and from there, we will head to the start of our bike tour. During the ride, we will follow the Rio Bonito River to the lake and explore the Manzano region. Around 1 PM, we will have lunch at the Manzano resort restaurant and enjoy the lake views. On the way back to Alehue, we will pass through the town of Villa la Angostura, so that those who wish can stay there and explore it. The rest of the day is free. There is an optional visit to Matias, a local craftsman who produces beautiful knives. He makes traditional gaucho knives for barbecues. Lunch and dinner are not included.

Day 3

Leisure. Kayak or Hike to Nivinco Waterfall (Weather Dependent) 7:30 Breakfast 8:30 AM: We depart for Bandurrias Point for our kayak tour. We will explore Lake Nahuel Huapi, its islands, the coastline, and famous landmarks. There is plenty of wildlife to appreciate. The kayak tour is not strenuous, and the goal is to enjoy the environment rather than cover long distances. We will kayak approximately 15 km. Please bring a picnic lunch. If weather conditions are not favorable for kayaking on this day, we will replace the activity with a hike to the Nivinco waterfall. Lunch and dinner are not included. For dinner, we can all go to town together. There you will find delicious local trout, meats, pasta, and other delicacies. The ice cream for dessert is also a delight.

Day 4

Hiking at Nahuel Huapi Lake. Day 4: Kayak or hike to Nivinco (depending on weather conditions) 7:30 Breakfast 8:30 AM: Departing for Bandurrias Point with backpacks and equipment ready for a two-day trek to the Dormilon refuge. Next, we'll embark on one of the most beautiful experiences of the trip: a motorboat ride with Juan Carlos Martinez, who lives on his land on the shores of the stunning Nahuel Huapi Lake, to his wood-burning stove where we'll have lunch. It will be a simple lunch of empanadas, fruit, and tortillas. The lake is surrounded by snow-capped Andean peaks and crisscrossed by countless branches. During your visit, you'll notice many words that don't sound like Spanish. In both Chilean and Argentinian Patagonia, the largest indigenous group is the Mapuche, and the words you'll hear are from their language. They named places, lakes, and flora, and we continue to use their terms. It's a true blend of Spanish and Mapuche. Mapuche is also known as Mapudungun. After lunch, we will prepare for the hike to the Dormilon Refuge, where we will spend the night. We will take breaks during our 3-hour uphill trek. Please bring a small backpack with everything you need and don't forget your sleeping bag. The night can be cold, so a sweater, jacket, and hat might be useful. We will hike along a trail in the Patagonian forest and, as we climb, we will see how the different tree species change according to environmental conditions. There are many birds to observe and the views from the highest points of the trail are breathtaking. In the cabin, we will have dinner and enjoy a good Argentinian wine around the wood-burning stove. Note that the cabin has a large open room where we will all sleep together; there is no electricity and the facilities are rustic. Around 11 pm, we plan an optional, easy night walk to observe the stars. The sky in the southern hemisphere is very different from that in the northern hemisphere, and you may be able to spot the Southern Cross.

Day 5

Boating at Nahuel Huapi Lake. Day 5: Boat trip across the lake, lunch, hike to the mountain refuge, dinner and overnight stay. 8:30 Breakfast After breakfast, we will descend from the cabin and walk to Martínez Beach for lunch. We will have lunch with Juan Carlos Martínez and his family. The beach is located within Juan Carlos's land, so he will prepare a welcome lunch for us. This will give us the opportunity to interact with a local family and see how some Patagonian families live. Barbecue featuring local freshwater trout and/or beef, plus grilled vegetables. After lunch, we will depart and cross the lake back to Bandurrias Point to make our way to our accommodation. Dinner not included .

Day 6

Hiking. Day 6: Descent from Dormilon. Lunch with barbecue. Boat crossing. 7:45 Breakfast We will travel by van to the Ñivinco waterfall, one of the most stunning tourist attractions in the region. We will hike for just over an hour to the waterfall and, upon arrival, we will take a break to rest, take photos, and have a snack. At midday, we will continue exploring the lakes. Afterwards, we will have lunch on Falkner beach, a picnic with local delicacies. We will return to the hotel around 4 or 5 pm.

Day 7

Horseback Riding. Day 7: Limay River Tour – Valle Encantado 07:45 Breakfast We will depart for Estancia Rio Minero, an iconic ranch in Rio Grande do Sul. The car journey will take approximately two hours. We will make stops at important tourist spots to admire the beautiful rivers and landscapes of Patagonia. Dario, a local guide, will accompany us and talk about the flora, fauna, history, and explain how this impressive landscape was formed. Prepare to see the basaltic cores of many extinct volcanoes, which rise like imposing columns in this ancient landscape. At the ranch, the family will be waiting for us with a typical Argentinian barbecue (a vegetarian option will also be available). After lunch, we will mount our horses for a ride. Florencia, from the younger generation, will guide us through the ranch and tell us about her work and lifestyle on this 35,000-hectare ranch. The family will prepare dinner for us and serve it in the dining room, next to the enormous fireplace. We will spend the night in their guesthouse by the river. Please note that we will all sleep together.

Day 8

Boating. Day 8: Van trip to Bariloche - Rafting on the Manso River - Dinner and overnight stay at a ranch near Bariloche. Breakfast at 6am 6:30 AM: Departure to take us to our next ranch on the outskirts of Bariloche for our day of rafting. We'll have a full day of rafting on the Manso River. We'll go all the way to the border with Chile, navigating rapids amidst the beautiful forests of Patagonia. Lunch will be prepared for you and served in a dry and cozy setting. You can choose from several menu options. At the end of this experience, we will relax on the farm with a hot shower and dinner. Lunch and dinner are not included.

Day 9

Transportation. Day 9: Flight from Bariloche to El Calafate - New guide accompanies the group. Breakfast at 8am Departure at 9:00 AM for Bariloche airport. Flight to El Calafate – the gateway to southern Patagonia. Transfer to the hotel. After we leave our luggage, you can stroll around the city and have dinner together. Don't forget to prepare lunch for the next day. Lunch and dinner are not included.

Day 10

Hiking at Perito Moreno Glacier. Day 10: Glacier hike 6:00 Breakfast 7:00 AM: Departure from the hotel for the ice hike. We will spend the day exploring the imposing Perito Moreno Glacier. We will take a boat trip, a short hike, and a crossing on the ice. We will also visit the so-called balconies, walkways that encircle the temperate forest and the glacier. Perito Moreno is the largest glacier in South America and the only one that is still growing. It is one of the jewels of Patagonia. Rest of the day free. Lunch and dinner are not included.

Day 11

Kayaking at El Chaltén. Glacier Kayaking – Travel to El Chaltén 7:00 Breakfast 8:10 AM: Check-out from the hotel. Don't forget to bring a packed lunch. Today, we will return to the park for a morning kayaking experience on the glacial lake. After a lunch break in the park, our van will pick us up and we will return to the hotel to collect our luggage. Then, we will depart for El Chaltén, traversing breathtaking landscapes. We will arrive at our hotel in El Chaltén. Prepare to spot huanacos, condors, and rheas. El Chaltén has a special atmosphere and is entirely dedicated to serving climbers and hikers. There are several bars and restaurants with a fun atmosphere.

Day 12

Hiking. Day Hike in El Chaltén Early breakfast at the hotel. We will be hiking in El Chaltén. We will decide on the trail as a group, as some are longer and steeper, and others are easier and less demanding. This place has iconic Patagonian landscapes, with rugged mountains, massifs, and steppes. Lunch and dinner are not included.

Day 13

Leisure. Day 13 Free morning (possibility of taking a walk) - return to El Calafate This morning is free to enjoy the various activities in El Chaltén. You can hike another trail, visit stunning waterfalls, stroll through a petrified forest and see dinosaur bones, visit another glacier, go horseback riding, or observe the condors. Return to El Calafate for your last night. Lunch and dinner are not included.

Day 14

Day 14: Flight back home Day of departure. Breakfast at the hotel. Note that you can fly from El Calafate to Buenos Aires and then return home. Some of our participants extend their adventure by taking a bus to Puerto Natales, Chile, and doing more hiking or kayaking in Torres del Paine National Park. The bus trip takes about 5 hours.
