We had a group of six that took the tour. We realize that many tour guides perhaps sanitize their conflicted feelings about America’s roll in the war and can appreciate hearing the other perspective. However, signing up for a street food tour, I didn’t expect to receive an aggressive history lesson for fifteen minutes before food was even discussed. We had been in the country (and Cambodia) for three weeks at this point and no attempt was made to learn about what we’d seen, heard or learned up to this point. The guide then proceeded to speed walk through the tour, not concerned that more than half the group was also interested in taking in the sights, grabbing the occasional picture instead of keeping up with him. He frequently made critical comments about this. We ended up cutting the tour short because we all felt unliked and uncomfortable. It was an unfortunate last excursion for us through what had been a wonderful month traveling the area.
