Small Group Yellowstone Snowshoe Safari
What your day looks like
Experience the profound stillness of the "American Serengeti" by utilizing the ancient technology of snowshoes to venture where others cannot. This immersive backcountry expedition is designed for those who wish to step away from the plowed corridors and enter a world of absolute silence, where the only sounds are the crunch of snow and the distant call of a wolf pack. Guided by a professional naturalist, you will explore the complex winter ecology of Yellowstone’s Northern Range. This is a tactile, hands-on journey where the snow serves as a fresh manuscript, revealing the "story" of the landscape through perfectly preserved tracks, frozen thermal features, and the resilient flora that thrives beneath the frost.
The experience, in brief

The journey, in full
Sunrise Gathering & Transit: Depart from a meeting location in Bozeman, Paradise Valley, Gardiner, or Mammoth. As we travel toward the trailhead, we use high-powered optics to scan the Lamar Valley for early-morning wolf and bison activity. The Snowshoe Immersion: Once at the trailhead, your guide provides professional-grade snowshoes and a brief orientation. We then transition into the backcountry, away from the sounds of the road. Winter Tracking & Sign Interpretation: Go beyond observation as your guide interprets the "ledger of the snow." Identify the distinct gaits of a mountain lion, the tunnels of subnivean rodents, or the fresh bedding sites of a wintering elk herd. Acoustic & Geothermal Discovery: Visit remote, frost-covered thermal basins or ice-draped waterfalls that are inaccessible without snowshoes. Experience the surreal contrast of boiling water emerging into sub-zero air. (Lunches are not warm) Secluded Field Picnic: Enjoy a gourmet lunch and hot beverages in a sheltered wilderness setting, offering a moment of quiet reflection amidst the Teton or Absaroka peaks.
