Scenic Mount Hood Loop: Self-Guided Driving Audio Tour
What your day looks like
The clockwise route kicks off near the famous Vista House by the Columbia River. From there, you will cruise alongside the river, past a series of incredible hiking trails and waterfalls, including Latourell Falls, Shepperds Dell Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, Angel’s Rest Lookout Trail, and more. But the major attraction is the thundering Multnomah Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in the nation. After that, you’ll pass through the quaint towns of Bonneville and Hood River before turning toward Mount Hood itself. On your way to the mountain, you’ll be treated to plentiful views of the imposing formation, as well as stories of its geologic history. On the slopes of Mount Hood, you’ll have the opportunity to trek through the wildflower meadows of Elk Meadows and see the volcanic feature known as Devils Kitchen. And you won’t want to miss Timberline Lodge, featuring some of the best views of the mountain. After paying a visit to the alpine beauty of Trillium Lake, you’ll swing back toward Portland. A few more stories about this landscape round out the trip, which ends near the town of Sandy. Your tour concludes here, having circled through the waterfalls, forests, peaks, and history that make the Mount Hood Scenic Loop one of Oregon’s most unforgettable drives.
