Take off on a tour across the must-sees in Seattle’s Uptown neighborhood, both from below and above. Join your local guide in the lively Seattle Center area by the Grass Blades sculpture, the first of many art pieces you'll see today. The Seattle Center is home to over 30 of Seattle’s organizations, including the Opera Center, Museum of Pop Culture, Climate Pledge Arena, Cornish Playhouse, and the Space Needle, among others. Spend time with your guide exploring the complex. Pass by the Chihuly Garden and Glass, where a selection of American artist Dale Chihuly’s large-scale blown glass sculptures rise from the ground and hang from the air. Another eye-catching site you’ll come across is the wavy metallic walls of the Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP). Designed by Frank Gehry, this building hosts exhibits devoted to beloved pop culture phenomena—from science fiction and fantasy to local sports and music legends like Nirvana. Continue walking through the Center and you may come across the Seattle Armory. Built in 1939, this site once housed the 146th Field Artillery and included a firing range and tanks. Today, it is nicknamed the “Center of the Center” and contains a selection of local food and drink vendors in its Food and Event Hall. Also look out for premier arts centers like the Seattle Repertory Theatre, Cornish Playhouse, and McCaw Hall, home to the Pacific Northwest Ballet and Seattle Opera. If there’s time, music fans may get the chance to pop into a local radio station and the Light in the Attic Records store. Located in the KEXP Gathering Space, this independent record store was built as a dedication to the culture of U.S. independent record stores. Make a stop at the International Fountain, originally built for the Century 21 Expo (World’s Fair). Once a dome of iron nozzles within a rocky circle, the fountain fit the fair’s Space Age theme. Since then, it has evolved into a fun play area. With your guide, walk through the Center for your pre-arranged timed entry to the Seattle Space Needle. Built in 1962 as a landmark attraction for the World’s Fair, the Needle aimed to represent Space Age thinking. Today, it continues to delight visitors with 360-degree views of Seattle and, weather permitting, the distant snowy peaks of Mount Rainier, the Cascades, and the Olympic Mountains. Your guide will share the attraction’s history and point out Seattle landmarks you may want to visit during your stay. Explore the ground-level artwork and attractions before soaring 520 feet into the air at the Space Needle, enjoying the view from its impressive revolving glass lookout.
