Portland's Historic Walking Tour, A Daily Walk Through Time
What your day looks like
Curious about Portland's history with railroads, fires, wars, famous poets and Hollywood producers? Join us for a walk through time! Ticket purchases benefit the Maine Historical Society! This tour will begin at 94 Commercial Street in Portland, ME and continue for 2 hours through the historic Old Port, downtown and waterfront areas, sharing highlights of Portland’s history since 1632. Stories and facts are brought to you by trained Portland History Docents (Ph.D.’s we like to call them) who will bring history alive as you enjoy this leisurely stroll. Some of the locations we feature include; the lobster statue, the home of Henry Wadsworth-Longfellow and his place of worship, the Eastern Cemetery, the Abyssinian Church, the U.S. Customs House and more. Since we finish at a bakery recently nominated for a James Beard award, we must enjoy a very sweet ending. Your ticket purchase donates $1.00 to the Maine Historical Society for the preservation of history and educational programs.
