The Experience

What your day looks like

Morning-trip vessel Makai is a fast and nimble open powerboat, with plenty of sea-spray likely on trips outside the bay. Clothing that you don't mind getting wet is recommended for whale-watch and snorkel trips on the Makai powerboat. Afternoon trips are most often on the sailing catamaran Spirit of Aloha, which is not as fast as Makai but does provide more areas out of the sea-spray. Every December through April, thousands of Humpback whales migrate to the warm waters of Hawaii. Come along see catch these beautiful mammals at their best on our exciting eco-friendly whale watching excursions. Dolphins are likely to be seen, too.

What travelers are saying

We saw some great whales. However, I booked this specifically because the description said 15 passengers max and I wanted a small group. This boat was at capacity which is 34 passengers. That is more than double what the max was on the booking site. Because of this, my family could not sit together and enjoy the whale watch as a group. We also spent a lot of time just sitting. I was not expecting that. Fortunately we were able to see a couple of whales breaching as we departed the bay. If it had been a 15 max trip, I would have rated it higher.
