The journey, in full
Check-in: Arrive 30–45 minutes early at Kewalo Basin Harbor (1009 Ala Moana Blvd., Honolulu, near Ala Moana Beach Park and Waikiki). Look for the Makani ticket booth (yellow with blue trim). Boarding & Departure: Times are usually 11:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m. (check current schedule on sailmakani.com, as they can vary seasonally). Board the luxurious 65-foot catamaran Makani—featuring covered seating, open deck areas, sunbathing nets, restrooms, Bose sound system, and a friendly crew. Before it sails out, there is a safety briefing. Sailing Out: The captain sets sail from the harbor and cruises along Oahu’s picturesque south shore. Glide over turquoise waters with panoramic views of: The lush green Ko’olau Mountains. The sparkling Honolulu skyline and Waikiki hotels/beaches. Iconic Diamond Head crater. Onboard Experience: Relax in the sun (or shade), enjoy the breeze, and keep an eye out for marine life—frequent sightings of playful spinner dolphins, green sea turtles, flying fish, colorful reef fish, and (seasonally) humpback whales. The crew shares fun facts about Hawaii's waters and wildlife. Full bar available for drinks (purchase) Return: After about 2 hours of smooth, stable sailing, the catamaran heads back to Kewalo Basin Harbor, arriving around 1:00 p.m. (for 11:00 a.m. start) or 4:00 p.m. (for 2:00 p.m. start).
