Downtown Portland Coffee & Donut Tour
What your day looks like
Jumpstart your morning with a huge variety of coffee and donuts across 4-5 mouthwatering stops where each bite and sip was crafted right here in Portland. Along the way, immerse yourself in quirky history while exploring Downtown Portland. How many coffee roasters are in Portland? The answer is more than anywhere else in the United States! You could say there’s nothing Portlanders take more seriously than our morning joe. And while donuts might not rank high on your list, they do in Portland, and we’re certain we can convince you why. This isn’t just a tour of Portland’s cafe scene, but also an exploration of coffee and donuts in their own right and how they came to be a modern mainstay. Learn how to pour the perfect pour-over, sip cold brew from the tap, and discover how Portland plays a significant role in today’s global coffee industry. Along the way, we’ll try many types of locally made donuts and pastries in hidden-gem cafés, from classic to unique flavors! Note: We do not visit Voodoo or Blue Star during this tour as they are on the common tourist track – instead we keep it local.
The experience, in brief
- Jumpstart your morning with a huge variety of coffee and donuts across mouthwatering stops
- Immerse yourself in quirky history while exploring Downtown Portland
The journey, in full
Taste two single-origin coffees brewed by pour-over, side by side. See why Portland drives the “Third Wave” coffee movement and learn to taste coffee like wine: notes, body, finish, the whole thing. Portland has over 75 locally owned and operated donut shops (that’s a lot, btw), and locals are very divisive about their favorite. We’ll sample a selection of the best from our favorite shop, which (depending on the rotating menu) may include buttermilk bars, lavender glaze, and mochi. From “Portland’s Living Room” and its echo chamber to Powell’s Books to our “Benson Bubblers,” Downtown is brimming with quirky history and surprises that perfectly capture our infamous “Keep Portland Weird” slogan. The nitro cold brew trend started here, and the perfect place to try this creamy and smooth brew poured straight from the tap is at Portland’s most celebrated roaster. At the coziest, most quintessentially Portland hole-in-the-wall café (that also roasts their own beans), indulge in a traditional macchiato paired perfectly with a homemade French pastry. End your morning with a specialty latte alongside fresh beignets and pastries, while discovering how this family-run Downtown staple has kept Portlanders coming back for almost 20 years.
