The Experience

What your day looks like

Dogsledding on the Herbert Glacier is a one of a kind experience! Working in cooperation with our dog camp, we orchestrate a thrilling adventure over vast expanses of Alaskan snow on the Herbert Glacier. You'll spend an hour at the dog camp, learning about the lives of mushers and the lifestyles of their dogs and mushing an authentic racing team. On the trail you'll have plenty of stops to ensure that each passenger has the opportunity to actually mush the dogs, you'll wish you could be up there year round! About 1.5 hours from liftoff to landing. The glacier landing is an additional landing on the Herbert Glacier, at a lower elevation than our dog camp. The pilot will land and guests will have about 25 minutes to explore.

What to Bring

Dress warmly and in layers, as the temperature on the glacier is often colder than you are used to. Don’t forget your sunglasses, scarf, hat, and gloves You will be outfitted with a glacier over-boot prior to embarking on your trip, please wear rubber-soled shoes such as a light hiking boot or athletic shoes to ensure a good fit. Remember to bring your camera with space for lots of pictures!

Restrictions

Please be aware that every guest is individually weighed at our facilities. Coastal Helicopters will try our best to accommodate parties/families in the same helicopter. However, we cannot guarantee seating as it is all based on helicopter weight and balance, as well as the other parties within the flight. This excursion was a top highlight of our trip. Each element- riding in the helicopter, seeing the dogs, and walking around the glacier- were amazing. Our pilot, Caleb, was skilled, navigating safely through clouds, and helping us get some of our favorite pictures of the trip by showing us the most scenic spots on the glacier. 10/10

I cannot recommend this excursion enough. It is truly a once in a lifetime experience that is worth every dollar. Everyone person involved in the excursion was super friendly, helpful, and extremely knowledgeable. We had so much fun hanging out with the dogs, and the glacier landing was out this world. Forget all the other excursions and splurge on this one, you won’t regret it!

Hands down the best excursion we have ever done. From the moment we lifted off in the helicopter to the moment we landed the experience was nothing short of amazing. This is a trip we will remember for a lifetime! The glacier landing was breathtaking. But the dog sledding was the experience of a lifetime. Getting to meet close to 300 dogs and watch them pull a sled and love to do it was incredible. Will absolutely do this again and recommend this tour to everyone I know!

An amazing combination of experiences! My boys were as excited as the sled dogs to spend time together and our helicopter ride and glacier visit were experiences of a lifetime…we even had a little glacier water “toast” at the top! Thank you for the experiences.

A perfect 10! This was our favorite excursion of any we have ever done! From the moment we arrived everyone was professional and friendly! Our pilot, Jim was knowledgeable and explained about the glacier and found the best spot for us. Our musher, Peter, was also very knowledgeable and a lot of fun! And the dogs were amazing!! We loved the experience, getting to hang with and know the dogs and the puppies were adorable! We absolutely recommend this tour!
