What your day looks like
The Met, your guide will show you a collection that rivals those of the Louvre and the British Museum. With no less than 2 million works of art and artifacts on hand, the Met showcases objects from Ancient Greece and Egypt as well as modern art from Europe and beyond. During this tour, you’ll start at the sumptuous Great Hall before moving to the museum’s most important galleries. In the Medieval Europe Gallery, you’ll learn about the Studiolo from the Ducal Palace as well as armory worn by Henry VIII. The American wing hosts the staircase from the Chicago Stock Exchange as well as the iconic portrait of Washington crossing the Delaware River. Learn about the turbulent and inspiring lives of several European painters including Vermeer, Seurat, and Van Gogh in the European wings. The museum itself has stories to tell, and your guide will explain how this American gallery differs from its older European counterparts, especially since it began before the United States was even 100 years old! After a break for lunch, we head to Central Park. Designed to give New Yorkers a breath of fresh air. More than just green space, it’s also a venue for memorials and artwork honoring figures like Bolivar and Marti, as well as Balto and Hans Christen Andersen. As your enthusiastic young guide shares the park’s history, you’ll cross the famous Gapstow Bridge on your way to the Central Park Zoo. You will follow the tree-lined Mall and discuss the literary figures memorialized in statues on either side. You will discover the Bethesda Terrace and Fountain, the sight of countless Hollywood moments. Cross Bow Bridge on your way to Strawberry Fields towards the Dakota to learn about John Lennon’s assassination at his memorial. You’ll discover the resplendent restaurant, Tavern on the Green, before joining the locals in Sheep Meadow, where New Yorkers of all walks of life can get away from city life for a moment. (2 hours 30 minutes) Lunch - Take a short lunch break for (food NOT included) before starting your afternoon walking tour through Central Park: Simon Bolivar Monument Begin your journey at this striking equestrian statue honoring the Venezuelan military leader, located at the southern entrance of Central Park. (10 minutes) The Pond Step into a tranquil retreat near the city’s edge, where native wildlife and seasonal foliage create a serene oasis. (10 minutes) Gapstow Bridge Capture stunning views of the New York City skyline from this charming stone bridge, a favorite among photographers and filmmakers. (10 minutes) Central Park Zoo (Exterior Only) Pass by the Central Park Zoo, home to exotic wildlife and the inspiration behind the animated film Madagascar. (10 minutes) Balto Statue Pay tribute to Balto, the heroic sled dog who led a life-saving serum delivery through the Alaskan wilderness in 1925. (10 minutes) Children’s Area – The Dairy, Chess & Checkers House Explore this historic section of the park, featuring a whimsical Victorian-era visitor center and a beloved area for family-friendly games. (10 minutes) Central Park Carousel See one of the country’s largest and most famous carousels, a beloved park attraction with hand-carved horses dating back to 1908. (10 minutes) Sheep Meadow Once home to a grazing flock, this expansive green lawn now serves as a favorite spot for picnics, sunbathing, and relaxation. (10 minutes) The Mall & Literary Walk Walk beneath a cathedral-like canopy of American elms, lined with statues honoring great literary figures. (10 minutes) Bethesda Terrace & Fountain Admire the breathtaking Angel of the Waters sculpture and the grand staircase overlooking the Central Park Lake. (10 minutes) The Lake Enjoy scenic waterfront views and spot rowboats gliding across this picturesque body of water. (10 minutes) Bow Bridge Cross one of the most photographed bridges in the world, known for its graceful ironwork and romantic setting. (10 minutes) Belvedere Castle Take in sweeping views from this fairytale-like observation deck, offering a stunning vantage point of Turtle Pond and the Great Lawn. (10 minutes) End at Central Park West & 80th Street (by AMNH) Conclude your tour near the American Museum of Natural History, perfectly positioned for further exploration of New York’s cultural treasures.
