Downtown Charleston & The French Quarter The Battery - visit this defensive seawall along Charleston Harbor. White Point Garden - a public park since 1837, it was used to store artillery during the Civil War Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon - one of only four remaining structures where the US Constitution was ratified in 1788 as well as Charleston’s most common destination for public slave auctions Marion Square - established as a parade ground for the state arsenal and named for one of the founders of modern guerrilla warfare during the Revolution. King Street - originally the main route of the city, now the upscale shopping street of Charleston Historic Residences: Rainbow Row - a group of 13 picturesque homes and storefronts along the Cooper River. Architectural overview of historic homes from the 18th and 19th centuries (entry not included) - Edmonston-Alston House - Aiken-Rhett House - Joseph Manigault House - Heyward-Washington House - Nathaniel Russell House - Williams Mansion Charleston Waterfront: Waterfront Park Pier - originally home to wharfs and shipping terminals, now a lovely park with a wide pier that juts out into the harbor, perfect for relaxing and taking in the view Gadsden’s Wharf - the first destination for an estimated 100,000 enslaved Africans during the peak of the international slave trade Old Mount Pleasant: The Old Village sits on the Charleston harbor and is known for its beautiful homes, moss-draped live oak trees, and small-town feel. The Old Village claims some of the best waterfront views of the Charleston area. Shem Creek - this popular waterfront destination with its own 2200-ft boardwalk is a favorite for locals, shrimpers, and dolphins as well.
