The Experience

What your day looks like

Host Bio: Karen is a delightful retired nutritionist with a warm laugh and a deep love for baking! When she was 12 years old, Karen made a brioche that was so delicious that her parents told her, "You're going to be the next Betty Crocker!" With a Master's in Education and a BS in food science, Karen has been teaching food and wellness for over 15 years. She is keen to share her knowledge of baking with adults and children. This is a very family-friendly experience. Karen and her husband are delightful conversationalists who look forward to hosting guests at their home, located a 30-minute drive from DC. Their home is easily accessible by public transport - simply take the metro to Hyattsville station, located a mile away from Karen's house, and will pick you up from the station. Cooking Description: Join Karen in her open kitchen for a hands-on baking class with a light lunch/supper. During the class, you'll work with both rich and lean dough. From a plain rich dough, you'll create stuffed sandwiches, perfect for hearty lunches or family suppers. From a sweetened and spiced rich dough, you'll create scrumptious cinnamon rolls. While you're waiting for the "rich" dough to rise and bake, you'll make a quick lean dough, perfect for a baguette or a thin-crust pizza! Make one or the other and enjoy a light meal of either baguette and butter with soup or a margarita pizza. At the end of the class, take home "ready to eat" or "ready to bake" stuffed sandwiches and cinnamon rolls. Tea, coffee, or sparkling water is provided. Participants are welcome to bring sodas, juice, or other beverages of their choice.
