Acadia Mount Desert Island Self-Guided Driving Audio Tour
What your day looks like
Start by downloading the Action Tour Guide app, which will function as your personal tour guide, audio tour, and map. Purchase one tour per car, not per person. Everyone listens together! Note: This 57+ miles-long tour covers the essentials of Acadia: Mount Desert in 2-4 hours. Once downloaded, your voyage around Mount Desert Island begins in Hulls Cove on the island’s north shore. From there, you’ll cruise along its picturesque shoreline and discover how this beautiful landscape first formed… and what the Ice Age had to do with it! Then, you’ll dig into some ancient tales as you uncover the legends of the Wabanaki and Glooskap. Learn of their seasonal migrations, their rituals, and the reason they cherished this landscape. Stop for a snack at the Pretty Marsh Picnic Area or keep driving toward Seal Cove. Then get to know George Dorr and the origins of Acadia National Park. Next, you’ll pay a visit to historic Bass Harbor. While you’re there, take a detour to the iconic Bass Harbor Head Light Station, a lighthouse dating back to the mid-1800s! Do a little oceanside exploring on the Ship Harbor Trail or the Wonderland Trail, then discover something unforgettable at the Charlotte Rhoades Butterfly Park. Next, you’ll take in stunning views of Echo Lake before learning about a historic fire which forever changed Mount Desert Island. After cruising through the village of Seal Harbor, you’ll finally make your way up to historic Bar Harbor, where your tour will conclude.
