Detailed Itinerary

The journey, in full

We depart the port and make our way to downtown Port of Spain. Here we experience lively Independence Square with its imposing Central Bank and Brian Lara Promenade. We continue our tour passing various interesting sights like the Trinity Church, the Parliamentary Building (Red House), the Supreme Court, our most prestigious High School St Joseph's Convent, the Museum of Natural History and at last the "world's largest roundabout", the Queens Park Savannah. This 200-acre recreational Park is lined with exotic trees and interesting colonial-style buildings. The most impressive among these are the "Magnificent Seven", a row of imposing mansions with amazing architectural designs. Our next stop is at the Lady Young Lookout for a beautiful panoramic viewpoint, you will see the city from here and on some days as far as Venezuela. We then follow the Eastern Main Road and Saddle Road through the Santa Cruz valley, the scenery changes from colorful market streets to lush agricultural valleys with cocoa and coffee plantations. If time allows we can make a stop at a lovely café, where organic cocoa tea is served! Grown right in the valley. Continuing our drive we now tour through various villages until we reach the most astounding part of our tour – the scenic journey up the North Coast Road. We enjoy the panoramic views of the Paramin Hills, the highly residential valleys, the Northern Range Mountains, and the rain forest. The most amazing view awaits us when we reach the Caribbean Sea. A photo stop at the Maracas Lookout is most rewarding (panoramic view). Here you can purchase the most typical and unusual local snacks – for example, sugar cake made from coconut strips and sugar, or freshly fried plantain chips, various chows & chutneys made from mangoes or fresh pineapple slices with cilantro – sesame seed sweets, chili-bibi, red mango preserves, papaya-balls, etc., etc – the choice is yours! A short drive now brings us to our last stop, Maracas Beach. Enjoy the natural ambiance of this beach with its beautiful palm-fringed coastline and unspoiled lush green mountains as a back-drop. Here you can take a walk along the beach, take a refreshing bath or just relax with a cool drink and a crispy Bake & Shark, the most popular specialty of this beach (cost not incl in tour price). You can also rent beach chairs and umbrellas here. Your time on the beach will be approx. 1.5 hours or longer.

What travelers are saying

We were blown away by our tour guide as well as our tour driver. One of our daughters was feeling sick and the driver pulled over to let her out. The guide and driver went above and beyond to help her: stopping at a local store to buy ginger ale, and more. We loved all of the stops along our tour. We were a party of 5, and only 1 other couple was with us. We felt as if we hired our own personal tour guide. Loved all of it!
