The Experience

What your day looks like

Welcome to our 7-Day Kilimanjaro Climb – Lemosho Route! Experience the snow-covered slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro while challenging your mind and body on this adventure. The Lemosho Route approaches Kilimanjaro from the west, similar to the Shira and newly established Northern Circuit routes. The trek begins at Londorossi Gate, taking you on a two-day journey through lush rainforest, followed by rolling hills. The rest of the trek features classic mountain scenery, with camps where we set up our tents. The Lemosho Route typically takes 7, 8, or 9 days, and it joins the Machame Route at Barranco Camp. This is the most scenic of all the Kilimanjaro routes and has the highest success rate. Lemosho is designed for those who are prepared to trek challenging terrain and sleep in small tents for several days, but also for those eager to explore exceptional wilderness. The descent is at Mweka Gate.

Moshi

Hiking at Mount Kilimanjaro. Big Tree Camp (2780m) – Shira Camp 2 (3900m) – Kilimanjaro Climb – Lemosho Route: Today's long trek begins on a small trail that winds through the trees, gradually ascending to reach the Shira Plateau. Enjoy stunning views of the mountain and the plains below. The path continues across Shira Ridge (around 3600m), where you will stop for lunch at Shira Camp 1, after a few more hours of hiking. The final section (approximately 3 hours) involves climbing another 250 meters in altitude, passing surreal Senecio plants that grow over 8 meters in height. After this long day, you will arrive at the camp, where you can relax with coffee and tea and enjoy a nourishing 3-course meal. As the sun sets, you may catch a glimpse of the summit glowing in the afternoon light.

Day 3

Moshi

Hiking at Mount Kilimanjaro. Shira Camp 2 (3900m) – Lava Tower (4640m) – Barranco Camp (3960m): Today, you will gain 700 meters in altitude and descend at Barranco, which is 60 meters higher than last night's camp. This helps with acclimatization, as you will reach 4640m before descending again. The day begins with a long uphill trek toward the Lava Tower Hut (4640m), where you will notice the landscape changing to a rocky alpine desert. Later, the path descends to the Barranco Valley, famous for its giant Senecio and Lobelia plants. After six to seven hours of trekking, you will arrive at Barranco Camp, widely regarded as the most beautiful camp on the mountain.

Day 4

Moshi

Hiking at Mount Kilimanjaro. Barranco Camp (3960m) – Karanga Camp (4035m): Today begins with the challenging Barranco Wall. At first, it may seem intimidating, but you'll quickly realize it’s not as difficult as it appears. However, there are tricky sections where you'll need to hold on tightly. Once you reach the top, take a moment to admire the stunning views. The rest of the route follows along the mountain ridge into the Karanga Valley and then out. After lunch, you'll reach Karanga Camp, where you'll be treated to fantastic views of the southern glacier of Kibo and the Kibo summit.

Day 5

Moshi

Hiking at Mount Kilimanjaro. Karanga Camp (4035m) – Barafu Camp (4640m): Today, you’ll hike through a desolate, rocky, moon-like landscape. It will be a relatively easy day, steadily heading uphill. The goal is to reach Barafu Camp, situated on a narrow ridge with a full view of Mawenzi Peak. You will walk along a trail that passes through the afro-alpine desert until you reach your destination—Barafu Camp at 4640m. Once there, take the rest of the day to relax and pack your daypack for tonight’s summit attempt. Supper will be served early, so try to drink and eat enough to prepare for the climb. Then, rest as best as you can. You will be woken up around midnight to begin your walk to the summit.

Day 6

Moshi

Hiking at Mount Kilimanjaro. Barafu Camp (4640m) – Uhuru Peak (5895m) – Mweka Camp (3080m): It is dark and cold as you set off just after midnight. Using your headlamp, you'll climb the frozen volcanic dust toward Stella Point on the crater rim, a journey that takes about six hours. The sun should begin to rise as you reach Stella Point. After just one or two more hours of climbing, you will stand at the highest point of the crater: Uhuru Peak—on top of the world! Take a short break for pictures and celebratory hugs before you begin the steep and dusty descent. By now, the volcanic ash will have thawed. You will stop for a brief tea break at Barafu Camp, then continue downhill for about three hours to Mweka Camp (3080m), where you'll spend the night. Refuel by drinking plenty of fluids and enjoy a hearty dinner. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be served.
