The area is home to various species of dolphins, and you can embark on boat trips to see them in their natural habitat. You can spot several species of dolphins in the waters off Kalpitiya, including spinner dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, and spotted dolphins. Spinner dolphins are particularly famous for their acrobatic displays, including spinning jumps.

Boating at Kalpitiya peninsula. Best dolphin watching season is from Mid October until end of April! During these months large schools of the playful spinner dolphins are dwelling just three nautical miles out, in front of Kappalady beach.
