What your day looks like
Join us on an unforgettable adventure through the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, where we will explore the secrets of the Kalahari desert and encounter an array of wildlife. The tour begins with a stop at the Norokei Salt Pans and the Khomani San Bushmen to view their art, before arriving at Twee Rivieren for a short rest. The next day, we embark on a game drive through the park, where we can spot predators like lions, leopards, cheetahs, and spotted hyenas. We'll also see a variety of bird species and antelope, such as gemsbok, hartebeest, springbok, and wildebeest. In the afternoon, we can take an optional sunset or night game drive with rangers. We continue our adventure with a 5-6 hour stalk drive towards Nossob, where we can watch animals coming to drink from the game hide with spotlight. On day three, we search for the famous Kalahari Lion and smaller desert inhabitants like the meerkat as we make our way towards Mata Mata. After checking into our lodging, we'll depart on another game drive to explore the area and take a sunset drive with rangers. On the last day, we pack up and depart towards Twee Rivieren, where we'll learn more about the Kalahari and its secrets before returning to Upington. Alternative camps or extended stays at the same camp may be used. Alternatively, if no accommodation is available in Kgalagadi, we book accommodation 5km outside the main gate, Kgalagadi Lifestyle Lodge, or 60km from the main gate, Molopo Lodge. Your day, step by step
Upington
Wildlife Safari at Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Upington – Kgalagadi -Twee Rivieren (260 km) We leave Upington at 8H30 from your guesthouse to drive to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Stop en route at the Norokei Salt Pans (natural salt mine) and the Khomani San Bushmen to view their art. Arrival at Twee Rivieren (12H30) Move into our lodge for a short rest. We depart on a game drive (speed limit 50km/h) in this 38 000 square km park until the gates close. Approximate predator numbers: Lions – 450, Leopards – 150, Cheetah – 200, Spotted hyenas – 370. Bird species are 264, of which 20 raptor species are present. Antelope such as Gemsbok, Hartebeest, Springbok and Wildebeest are well represented. Optional 3-hour sunset- or Night game drive with rangers in an open truck or morning bush walk.
Upington
Wildlife Safari at Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Twee Rivieren – Nossob (160km) Wake up one hour before gates open. Breakfast, then pack for Game drive in the dry riverbed. We do stalk driving (direction North-East) for 5 – 6 hours to reach Nossob. This is the day we try to learn more of the Kalahari and its secrets. Afternoon arrival. Check into lodge and short rest. Depart on a game drive until gates close. Special feature Nossob: Game hide with spotlight to watch animals coming to drink. Optional sunset drive with Rangers after gates closed.
Upington
Wildlife Safari at Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Nossob – Mata-Mata (150km) Wake up an hour before gates open. Pack up and game drive towards Mata Mata, using the 70km long Dune Road to cross from Botswana to Namibia. Today we search for the famous Kalahari Lion, as well as the smaller inhabitants of the desert, like the Meerkat. Afternoon arrival at Mata Mata. Check in and short rest before we depart on another game drive to explore this area. Special feature Mata Mata: Game hide with spotlight, sunset drive with Rangers after gates closed.
Upington
Wildlife Safari at Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Mata Mata – Twee Rivieren – Upington (405km) Wake up one hour before gates open, pack up and depart direction South. Today we learn more of the Kalahari and her secrets. After 4 – 5 hours of stalk driving we reach Twee Rivieren (12h00) Depart for Upington. Late afternoon arrival at your guesthouse. Tour ends.
