The Experience

What your day looks like

Let us introduce you to a grandiose monument of nature—the mighty Danube River. The Danube was, and still remains, a point of both union and separation for nations and countries. Our country is privileged to be one of ten through which Europe’s second-longest river flows. Once the main bond between East and West—and the border of the powerful Roman Empire—it has not lost its importance. Even today, it continues to serve as a route connecting the far reaches of the Old Continent. This incredible river, popularly called the “old giant,” is the cradle of numerous civilizations and cultures, with many sites along the Serbian banks standing as proof of its rich history.

Detailed Itinerary

The journey, in full

Following the flow of the blue giant, your first sight will be the Golubac Fortress. Built on inaccessible cliffs near the widest part of the Danube, this medieval fortification welcomes you with its mystical towers, each telling stories reminiscent of a true fairy tale. Climbing one of the towers, you’ll understand why locals say the Danube looks like the sea from this point. Standing atop one of the best-preserved fortresses in Serbia, you will have the opportunity to enjoy an almost aerial view of the river and its mirror-like surface. For the next stop, we will set a “time machine” and take you to the Neolithic era. The archaeological site of Lepenski Vir, a prehistoric urban settlement, reveals information about our ancestors from the 6th century BC. Their way of life and achievements prove that ancient Homo sapiens were far more advanced than previously believed. This museum—unique in theme, location, and structure—will leave you inspired and full of wonder. As a reward for your patience during this “history class,” we will visit the eco-ethno household Kapetan Mišin Breg, where you can enjoy enchanting views over the Đerdap Gorge. The complex, named after a highly respected captain, offers an open-air gallery titled Man, Wood, Water—a collection of wooden and stone sculptures. Take a deep breath, chat with the hosts, and gaze into the distance as you bid farewell to the mighty river. We truly hope that the stories tied to the events and landmarks along the Danube—witnesses of different eras—will give you one more piece to add to your Serbia puzzle.
