The Romanian Royal Family utilised it as a summer royal palace until the communist state took it over.

Sightseeing at Rupea Fortress. The second day of your Transylvanian trip begins at 9:00 a.m. with your departure from Brasov. Your journey leads you to medieval castles set among the region’s traditional Romanian villages, concluding with the fortification of the Rupea. It is renowned as one of Romania’s oldest archaeological sites, dating back to 5500 BC, and its existing structure has a venerable history of over 700 years. Among the fortress’s legends is that of Decebalus, the renowned Dacian ruler, who is said to have died behind its walls during the Second Dacian War in 106 AD. While Transylvania’s citadels and castles are enchanted with their majesty, the tour also reveals the charm of ancient villages that have preserved Europe’s bygone lifestyle. Sighisoara citadel has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999, with continuous occupation dating back to the 13th century. The city pulses with life, with compelling street performances and exhibits by local artisans that reveal the secrets of historical crafts to eager visitors. Your investigation continues to the renowned Clock Tower, which provides panoramic views of the entire fortress from its heights.
