The first part of the day includes a guided walk through University Square and Piata Unirii (Unirii Square), where you will learn more about the recent history of Bucharest. This is followed by a visit to the Palace of the Parliament, the largest building in Europe, which currently houses the Romanian Parliament. The guided tour continues with a discovery of Bucharest's Calea Victoriei. Victoriei Avenue is one of the city's most important thoroughfares, stretching almost 3 kilometers. The street was originally known as Podul Mogosoaiei and received its current name after Romania's victory in the War of Independence in 1878. As one of the oldest streets in Bucharest, the avenue showcases the elegance of the city before the communist era, from a time when Bucharest was still known as the "Little Paris." The sightseeing tour will also take you to several remarkable landmarks, including Piata Unirii, Piata Presei Libere, and Piata Victoriei (Victory Square). Piata Victoriei attracts particular attention, as it intersects with Victoriei Avenue and is near Victory Palace, the Grigore Antipa Museum of Natural History, and the Museum of the Romanian Peasant, among others. The itinerary also includes Piata Universitatii (University Square) and Piata Revolutiei (Revolution Square). Piata Revolutiei is a significant site in Romania’s history, marking the moment when democracy triumphed over socialism. It is where Nicolae Ceausescu spent the final moments of his rule, ending his dictatorial regime in 1989 after a popular uprising against tyranny. Near Revolution Square, you can visit the National Museum of Art, a historic building dating back to the early 19th century, located in the former Royal Palace. The building has a royal past, having been the residence of Prince Alexandru Ghica and Alexandru Ioan Cuza. Nearby is another architectural gem, the Romanian Athenaeum, home to the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra. You will also have the chance to see Bucharest's Arch of Triumph, built between 1922 and 1936 to commemorate Romania's participation in World War I. The Arch of Triumph (Arcul de Triumf) was declared a historical monument in 2004 and stands at the center of one of Bucharest's busiest intersections.
