The Experience

What your day looks like

BioBay Boat Tour. Discover la Parguera, a small fisherman village that has become very popular during the past years, located in the southwest part of Puerto Rico. Enjoy the lush mountain views, and the Southern coastal area and appreciate the change of topography as we drive to Lajas. Once we arrive will stop for an appetizer at one of the local restaurants. We will then head out on the boat and cruise for about 20 minutes while passing by floating homes and enjoying the views. The initial step is to visit a cay. Here you will have the opportunity to swim in its pristine waters and watch the sunset (during the summer months). Once dark we will move to another area where you will be able to experience the bioluminescence first hand. Our bilingual guides will explain the fragile ecology of the plants and animals of the bay, give interpretive star lectures, and then park the boat in an area of high bioluminescent concentration, giving visitors the chance to view the millions of glowing creatures.

This tour is an absolute must. As everyone says, there are only five bioluminescent bays in the world—and three of them are in Puerto Rico. La Parguera is the only one where you’re allowed to swim, which makes the experience even more magical. Beyond the bio bay itself—which was easily one of the most unique and awe-inspiring experiences of my life—the entire tour was fantastic. The drive across the island gave us a glimpse of Puerto Rico’s stunningly diverse landscape, followed by a delicious food stop in La Parguera, a relaxing swim around a sandbar with beautiful mangroves, and a fun moment watching tarpons being fed. Our guide was excellent—knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about the island. Highly recommend!
