Host Bio: Born and raised in Comerio, Johana is a warm and fun local who works as a Cultural Interpreter hosting events to share the history and culture of her region. Over the past 25 years, Johana learned to cook traditional Puerto Rican recipes from her mother and aunts. She believes food brings people together and cooking is her way to show love. Johana lives in a home with a view of the mountains surrounded by a fruit and vegetable garden. She is excited to share her Puerto Rican cuisine and culture with guests from around the world. Cooking Description: Meet your host Johana at her home in Comerio, a 45-minute drive south of San Juan. Sip on a refreshing drink and enjoy a Puerto Rican platter of snacks as your host shares stories about living in Puerto Rico. Next, join Johana in her beautifully designed kitchen to learn to cook and transform any dish with a unique Puerto Rican flair. During your hands-on Puerto Rican cooking class that lasts about 1.5 hours, learn to cook 3-4 dishes. You will also learn techniques involved in making sofrito, the foundation for most Caribbean dishes using only local ingredients. After cooking, sit down at the table (outdoors, weather permitting) to share the authentic Puerto Rican meal you helped prepare with Johana. Your menu might include dishes such as tapas de mariscos, paella criolla, and many more. Your meal concludes with dessert and includes two cocktails or glasses of beer at the cost of your experience. Wines, other cocktails, and beers are available upon request at extra cost.
