Donegal Island Tour
What your day looks like
Discover one of Donegals hidden gems by taking a trip to Arranmore Island. Our journey takes us from Derry via Letterkenny through the pictureseque villages of Kilmacrennan, Creeslough, Dunfanaghy and Dungloe to the tranquil fishing port of Burtonport, departure point for the Arranmore ferry. The Arranmore Ferry is a daily passenger service which runs between Burtonport and Arranmore Island. The crossing takes only fifteen minutes and takes in some of the areas most beautiful scenery. The Arranmore Ferry can cater for all sizes of vehicles and can accommodate up to 96 foot passengers. Located in the Donegal Gaeltacht Arranmore Island, (Oileán Árainn Mhór), is three miles off the Donegal mainland. The island scenery is characteristic of the Rosses area of Donegal with hills, rocks and small lakes dotting the landscape. It is an ideal holiday location for walking, learning the Gaelic language, diving, cycling, and sea and lake angling. The west of the island boasts spectacular cliff scenery, including the lighthouse on Rinrawros Point, erected in 1798. A variety of walking routes stretch around the seven square miles of the island, with views of the mainland stretching from Glen Head to Tory Island. The clear waters and diverse marine life make it ideal for snorkeling and SCUBA diving. A number of small secluded strands compliment the main beaches at Aphort and Leabgarrow. The island also boasts two brown trout lakes and one Rainbow trout lake, in all cases breeding naturally. Boats for sea angling can be hired and there are abundant cod, ling, conger eel, pollock, wrasse, skate, turbot and plaice. Your guide will guide you around various locations on the island followed by free time to explore the sights and sounds yourself.
