Meet your professional tour guide outside the main port gate and set off to explore the little town of Klaipeda, so rich with history and interesting stories that you will get lost in time before you realize that the tour is already over. During the city tour, you will see the old Castle territory and the Old Town with the fascinating merchant's warehouses in the typical German style with “Fachwerk” (half-timbered) decorations. The tour will take you to the Theatre Square with the Simon Dach fountain, which is named after the 17th-century German poet, born in Klaipeda. The fountain portrays a statue of a girl named Annehen von Tharau, who is the subject of a famous German wedding and love song. You will get to meet the mysterious inhabitants of the city, learn funny stories about them and make your wish! And of course, no visit to Klaipeda can be complete without a visit to the Amber Queen Museum, rumored to be the best private amber collection in the world! You will make sure to check if it's true, and will also get a chance to shop for extraordinary pieces for amber for sale. At the end of the tour, your guide will be happy to give instruction how to get back to the ship (very easy indeed!) and will make suggestions for a beer tasting.

Elena was a lovely and thorough guide. She was on time to start and accepted the suggestion of being in the shade while she gave us a great history of the area. We felt like we got a great overview of everything this country (and especially Klaipeda) has been through in the past. She also pointed out architecture and cute sculptures. It was a nice way to spend the morning.
