Small Group Tokyo Secret Food Tour
What your day looks like
Learn about the food scene and culture in Tokyo from our food enthusiasts who will explain the interesting stories behind local delicacies such as 'yakitori'(skewed chicken) and 'gyoza'(fried dumplings with minced meat and vegetables) or beef croquettes. Discover the traditions and social functions of Japanese food in Ueno, Tokyo. We'll begin with one of the most popular sushi shops to enjoy freshly made sushi and start walking through the bustling local streets near the station. As we leave the busy station area we head toward the downtown district to enjoy some fried or steamed dumplings called Gyoza or flavorful Asian beef croquettes. Then a short hop away a staple of the Japanese street food, the famous Yakitori served with a draft beer or a flavoured Sawa in a busy Tachinomiya (stand up eat & drink restaurant). Time to switch from savoury to sweet with our first choice of Manju or depending upon the season some freshly cut fruit. And a trip to Japan would not be considered fulfilled if one did not enjoy some Matcha ice cream. As with all our tours, there's our delicious Secret Dish in a cosy environment.

What travelers are saying
I thoroughly enjoyed this class. I liked going to the market to pick out the ingredients. The leader gave lots of things I could choose from to make sushi. The cooking studio was bright and set up well. He demonstrated each step and then let me try as well. We made salmon sushi and salmon sushi roll, as well as wagu nigiri. It was very tasty. He even gave me a gift of good quality chopsticks for cooking at the end! He also sent the recipes.
We enjoyed walking with K (kamal?) through the Ueno area. He took extra time while we waited for our tables to talk about the history of the area, and see a bit of the park. The restaurant choices were wonderful.
This food tour was excellent. We tried so many delicious types of food.
I really liked this tour. I wish it was a little longer so we could experience some more food variations. I know there are some constraints with walking and time between places so I took that into account as well. We had a great tour guide and small group was fun as well!
