All guests (including children) must bring ID on the day of their tour. All guests must pass through security. Due to the religious nature of the Vatican, all individuals regardless of gender must cover their shoulders and knees. Walks cannot be held responsible for those denied entry. Only small backpacks and handbags are allowed inside St. Peter's Basilica. Bag check is available at the entrance.

Our tour guide was friendly, but mentioned many times during the tour how she was not a believer anymore (she grew up Catholic) which was so disappointing, as St. Peter’s Basilica is a pilgrim sight for many faithful Catholics. She should have kept her faith beliefs to herself, and only focused on the history of these holy sites.
