What your day looks like
Experience the wonders of the Pinecone and Octagonal Courtyard and the Belvedere Torso. Stroll throughout the Round Room and admire the Constantine coffins of the Greek room. Your expert guide will take you to see the Gallery of Tapestries, where you will walk the halls of handcrafted tapestries by Pieter van Aelst’s School, which were created from drawings by Raphael’s pupils. Next, it is on to the Gallery of Maps, just imagine, wall-to-wall hand-painted maps from the 16th century giving you an idea of what geography looked like back then. From there,e you will visit the recently restored Raphael Rooms, which are sure to take your breath away. Admire The School of Athens, one of Raphael’s masterworks, and learn about the historic greats and some contemporaries he carefully placed within this painting. After this, it’s time to head over to see one of the stars of the tour – Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel. Admire the 8,000 square feet of this masterpiece standing in its center, surrounded by paintings. After the Chapel and all its glory, your tour guide will take you towards your final stop, St. Peter’s Basilica, where you will enjoy exclusive access to the most immense and ornate Catholic church in the world. Visit one of the most stunning pieces of art in the basilica, Michelangelo’s statue of the Pietà, depicting the Virgin Mary holding her dying child in her arms. Another must-see work of art is Bernini’s altar canopy, which is made of an astounding 100,000 pounds of gilded bronze. This comprehensive tour will give you an idea of the grandeur of Vatican City and the artwork it holds. To end, your guide will leave you inside Saint Peter’s Basilica, allowing you ample time to continue your exploration of the Papal Tombs, and even climb to the top of the Dome.

Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel Discover some of the most famous paintings and sculptures from Western civilization and listen to amusing anecdotes about the former popes and artists represented in the museums. With a small-group tour of a maximum of six people, or in your very own private tour, easily maneuver through the crowded museums at a comfortable pace. After a view of the terrace over the Vatican gardens, make your way across the beautiful early Renaissance courtyard to admire Hadrian's Pinecone, and then to the modern art piece of Arnaldo Pomodoro. You will then head to the magnificent Octagonal Courtyard, which is one of the most remarkable collections of Roman and Greek artifacts. Admire the famous Belvedere Torso, learn about the mystery of the Laocoon Priest of Troy, and visit the Muses Room. Walk through the beautiful galleries to admire an abundance of candelabra, tapestries, and maps. Then head to the Julius II apartments and see the grandeur and the magnificent details of the Raphael Rooms. Sistine Chapel Next, learn of Michelangelo's masterpiece from your guide before you enter through a tiny door to admire the majestic Sistine Chapel. Take in its grandeur in contemplative silence. St. Peter's Basilica The tour will end with a visit to St. Peter’s Basilica, where you will access the church directly through a VIP passage to skip the long line. Enjoy the awe-inspiring visit and be amazed at the size of the beautifully adorned Basilica. *Saint Peter’s Basilica is closed on most Wednesdays mornings due to the weekly Papal Audience. If you book this tour for a Wednesday the time inside the Vatican Museums will be extended.

I learned so much from our tour guide .... he was very informative ... he was also sympathetic to me not feeling well after spending 3 hours in the heat on our private Colosseum and Palatine Hill tour before the Vatican City tour. He found a place to park me while he showed the rest of our group the Vatican gardens and then we continued on with the tour of the Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Basilica.
