At the center of our special Best of Florence tour is the towering figure of Michelangelo, who defined the spirit of his age more perfectly than anyone else. We’ll learn about his long and dramatic life and come face-to-face with his greatest masterpiece in Academia, the iconic statue of David. And that’s not all. Your expert local guide will take you on a journey into the heart of Renaissance Florence, gazing up at the exterior of the incredible Dome designed by Brunelleschi to cap Florence Cathedral. After admiring Brunelleschi's masterpiece of Renaissance engineering from the best vantage point in the Piazza del Duomo, we'll pass the nearby Baptistery, graced by the magnificent bronze doors that Michelangelo dubbed “the Gates of Paradise.” We’ll stroll over the ancient Ponte Vecchio, perhaps the most famous bridge in the world, and still lined with the jewelers’ shops that have been there for over 4 centuries. In Piazza Della Signori, we’ll arrive at the epicenter of the Renaissance world, the city’s political center that doubles as an open-air art gallery showcasing brilliant sculptures by Benvenuto Cellini, Giambologna, and more.
