The Experience

What your day looks like

Visit Esztergom, Visegrád, and Szentendre, three of the most beautiful cities in the Danube Bend. Enjoy the picturesque sights in each town and learn about Hungarian history along the "Blue Danube." End the day with an unforgettable boat tour back to Budapest. Danube Bend – An Excursion into Hungary's History This is an unforgettable tour along the "Blue Danube," with stops in Esztergom, Visegrád, and Szentendre. Esztergom: Once the capital of Hungary, Esztergom remains the center of the Catholic Church. We visit the largest cathedral in Hungary, which is also the burial place of famous cardinals, including Primate József Mindszenty. Afterwards, we drive across the river to Slovakia and enjoy the view of the Basilica. Visegrád: After the Mongol invasion, a new fortification was built here in the mid-13th century. The top of the hill offers a stunning panorama of the Danube Valley. After enjoying the view, there is an opportunity to have lunch (not included in the price). Szentendre: This small baroque city, built on medieval ruins, is located at the gateway to the Danube Bend. Known as the Artists' Village or Painters' Town, it features cobblestoned narrow streets and charming baroque houses. During the guided tour, you can also visit local museums, such as the famous Margit Kovács Ceramic Museum or the Confectionery Museum with marzipan figures. During the summer (May–September), we return to Budapest by boat. The tour concludes in the city center at the pier.

This was a good tour of the area north of Budapest along the river. Our guide did a good job on the way to each of the sites providing historical information about the area. On the other hand, the guided information at each of the sites was limited. We really only received a tour of the Cathedral, everything else was on our own. However, each of the sites was beautiful and worth seeing and can be enjoyed wandering by yourself. Incredible views and a some opportunity for some good shopping outside of tourist traps in Szentendre. A partial river cruise that is available only in the high season and weekends is probably the best way to experience this tour, but that isn't going to fit everyone's schedule. Unfortunately we missed this, but even a full bus coach tour is still great. Overall, we had a great time and this tour is good value for the price. If you have extra time in Budapest, consider this as an option to spend the day especially if you love beautiful scenery.

We had a nice day overall but a little bit longer on a big bus than we thought it would be but that's on us. We made it to all the stops with a little too much time in some spots and not quite enough in others but again, that's on us. We all have different expectations.

It was great! We’d do it again.
